Canada Summer Vacay!

Pack it up, we're headed to Canada. Merril had a race that needed radios by Glacier National Park. We tagged along for a summer vacay.

We stopped along the way in Idaho at Lava Hot Springs.

It was pretty hot outside and the hot springs were also very hot!

Mark is wearing Dad's watch because he's trying to see his heart rate.

The next day we were up by Glacier. It was much colder there. Merril set up the radios early and we went to check on them with him.

We went back to the expo where they give out registrations and runners can purchase merch. They had a s'mores station and hammocks. We stopped there for a bit.

Then we went for a hike in Glacier National Park. Mikayla was cold and had to wear the SAR coat of shame. Lol.

But we found a cool waterfall. And there was a deer on the trail. It was not scared of us. It knows it was in a national park.

After we were done at Glacier, we drove to the Cardston Alberta Temple just inside of Canada. It's pretty old. It was complete in 1923 about 100 years ago.

Then we drove to Alberta and stayed in a college dorm that they rent out to tourists during the summer. We found a nice ward for Sunday.

We went to Banff National Park next. In the town of Banff, we got pizza and ice cream. Mikayla loved the pizza in Banff. They brought out honey and chili oil to eat with the pizza crust. Never had that before but it was yummy!

Then we drove to Lake Louise in the park. The lake is glacier run off and is a beautiful blue green color.

There's also a very fancy hotel.

We hiked up to a viewpoint and it really shows off the beautiful lake.

We drove for a while and stayed another night. Got up the next day and hit another hot spring. This one wasn't developed and was right next to a river. So it was more of a natural hot spring.

This one smelled a tiny bit of sulfur but was really pretty.

Then we drove a bunch more across Idaho and ate dinner at a restaurant that is owned by the guy that used to own the Painted Pony here in town. It was super yummy.

We kept driving but it was getting late. We'd been in the car all day and Merril just wanted to keep driving to home. We switched drivers and it was nearly 10 p.m. I was looking up hotels in Idaho Falls because I was kind of done. That's when we hit an antelope. Boo. It smashed the passenger front pretty bad and we were losing coolant. We also lost our freon for the air conditioning system, which is such a bummer because we just replaced the leaking condenser right before the trip.

We had enough coolant to get to Idaho Falls. We checked into a hotel and hit the hay. Merril got up early the next morning to fix the car enough to get us home. Unfortunately, he couldn't do anything about the air conditioning. We ended up driving home from Idaho Falls in the summer with no air conditioning. We kept putting water on towels to keep us cool but we had to keep the windows down a bit to keep air moving. We got home fine but it was a bummer end to the trip.

A Visit from Emily

My friend Emily U. was able to sneak out for a little trip. The architect firm her husband works for a landed a job for the St. George Airport. Aaron came out to check on some things and Emily was able to come too. They stayed here and we were able to spend a day together. It wasn't very long but I was excited to hang out with her. We Marco Polo all the time but we haven't seen each other in person since Chicago.

She actually left her cardigan here. As it turned out, we were going through Idaho on our vacation next week and that's where she was spending the rest of a summer vacation. How fortunate. I dropped it off at her Mom's house.

Leighna's Mission Call Opening

We're supposed to guess where Leighna is going on her mission and Mikayla put this on the map. President Trump recently decided to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. I don't know if I agree with that but I do think Mikayla is funny.

She's going to Wisconsin, Milwaukee Mission! Starting in November, I think the 24th!

She seems excited! I don't think she's excited for the cold but I'm sure she'll get a big coat and be fine!

Godspeed Leighna!

Juliet Turns 18!

Juliet is in Nashville with Megan and Lucas for her 18th birthday. Dad sent her this shirt to wear at BYU. lol.

But the coolest gift is a surprise from Nicole. Nicole decided to fly out to Nashville to surprise Juliet for her 18th. She caught an overnight flight and surprised Juliet. She was waiting in the living room at Megan's house when Juliet woke up. Juliet said she was shocked and confused like, "Hey! What are you doing here?!" They spent the day touring around Nashville.

Aunt Megan got balloons for her birthday and cake. What a sweet experience for Juliet on her 18th birthday.

Valerie's 50th Bash in Hawaii

Valerie Scott invited the breakfast bunch to Hawaii for her 50th birthday. Wow! I can't believe we all made it there. Valerie's two sisters were there when we arrived. Becky and Jenn. They left the day after we got there.

We flew through the night and got to Honolulu at 6:00 a.m. We needed a nap for a bit but then we went for a hike.

We found a cave. I didn't take all the pictures but Laurie always takes a bunch. Just know that there was a ton of laughs and silliness.

We had morning walks. These ladies walk more miles than I do.

We went to church.

Got some killer malasadas at Leonard's bakery.

Swam at the condo pool.

Watched sunsets!

Surprised Valerie with these silly matching muumuus.

Went ziplining!

Got matching shirts!

Ate delicious foods!

Found shave ice! My fav!

Visited the Laie Temple! The time we could find for everyone to be in Hawaii also was the day of my wedding anniversary. Merril contacted these awesome ladies and they picked up a fresh lei for me. Awww! He got me flowers for our anniversary!

Got killer breakfast at the Hukilau Cafe! We took it to the BYU Hawaii campus and ate it there. At the campus, we went to the bookstore and bought ties. We ran into some elders at the temple and they said it was a great place to get ties. I bought one for Jack and sent it to him.

These ladies are the best! I love them so much and I'm very lucky to have them in my life.
