My favorite finds have been canned butter and canned cheese. I just think it seems awesome that butter can be canned. I have a recipe to bottle it at home with a pressure or water bath canner but haven't tried it yet. I want to try that and chicken!!
Food storage is like a huge insurance policy for me. I feel like saying, "Bring on the apocalypse!! I've got like beans and stuff!!" We use the beans, oatmeal and dehydrated onions pretty regularly. Wheat and apple slices less often.

Happy 4th of July weekend!!

I would love to try bottling chicken and/or butter. Name the date.
nice food storage! how do you store you water to keep it from going bad over time? i need tips. we just flush ours out every few months, but that seems like a waste of water.
You can go to http://www.providentliving.org/content/display/0,11666,7534-1-4065-1,00.html to see where I get my water storage guidelines. Usually you should flush it annually as long as your bottles have been cleaned properly before hand.
I go through wheat because we have a wheat grinder. I like to grind wheat and then make bread. If only I grew my own wheat then I would totally feel like the Little Red Hen.
I tried bottling venison a couple of weeks ago, and it actually turned out pretty good. I'll do more if Boyd gets another deer this year. My storage needs updating, time for a case lot sale!
It sounds great wish we had the storage space in England to do such. with 4 kids this would be soooo handy, especially during term breaks
