Fixing bikes and saving my bacon...

Jack has been pulling bikes apart for about a year. It is a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing when it works out, a curse when he makes it worse. He's learning and getting better so that's good. Fast forward to this week. I ran over Mark's bike that was laying in the middle of the garage floor. Jack and I tried to get parts but were having a hard time knowing what we needed exactly. I niggled the rim, seat, seat post, reflector, and brake pad. I called the St. George Bicycle Collective to see if they had parts for cheap. They take donated bikes and fix them up and sell them.

So we rolled into the store and a nice older gentleman introduced himself as Jack (green shirt) and asked what was wrong and assured me they could fix it up. He put my Jack right to work, telling him to take the tire off and giving him assignments.

Jack and Jack worked for about an hour and finally got Mark's bike back to perfect! My Jack said he learned so much. The older Jack is a volunteer mechanic and comes to fix bikes with his free time. Older Jack said,"Isn't this fun? I get to hang out and fix bikes all day!" He was a patient and fun teacher. Humanity is good, people are awesome!
